Editable Columns in SBM Workcenter Hot

by Barry Jones on July 22, 2015

Workcenter present a column/grid interface.  Currently, the columns and their labels are fixed.  We would like them to be editable.

    • Column label changes should be permitted (so Priority could be made Rank, etc)
    • Columns should be able to be sortable so that what appears in the third position could be moved to the first position, etc.  Perhaps drag n droppable.
    • Selections regarding which columns appear should be permitted.  Right now, the displayed columns are fixed; it's not possible to replace one for another.

I agree that this would be desireable, not only for backlog views but for any type of report.

For example depending on the context of a report you might want to give a column a different name in order to give it a different spin. Another use case is to be able to use an abreviated name name for a column so that the column would take less space on a list report for example.

I agree that permitting other fields will be very valuable. One of the complications of doing this is that if the backlog has multiple feeds from different tables, the fields you choose to display might exist in one table and not another. We might simply display a blank value for non-existent fields, or we might try to create a more complex model where different fields (from the different tables) can be mapped to the same column in the backlog view. Do you have any thoughts you'd like to share on this?

Thanks for the clarification. Improving the backlog view is a potential theme for a 2Q'CY16 SBM release vehicle. I'll place this under consideration and we'll review it again during release planning for that version.

    Hi Dave,

Barry wants these features for the 'Backlog' feature in Workcenter.

The desire is for the Backlog workcenter interface to automate the activities that an end-user would engage in while working off from a spreadsheet in a meeting of decision makers determining the rank of the backlog items. They want to be able to see other fields in the items being ranked also. Right now, (aside from the system fields) you can only see the Item ID and Title.

    Hi Barry,

Work Center is a "shell" for a variety of views and display options (e.g. Activity View, Dashboards, Report Center, etc.). Can you be more specific about what area launched from Work Center you're referring?
